On Friday, December 4th, I got a call from Offficer John Mcphail who had Chaplain Paul Giddens riding with him. They had just arrived at an accidental death of a 3 month old baby boy.
I contacted Pastor Ken Murray who was just a few blocks away and he followed me to the residence arriving approximately 5-7 minutes after being called. As we entered the house we saw Chaplain Giddens comforting the grandmother by just holding her hand. The mother was still holding her baby and sitting in a chair with the father standing behind her. Pastor Murray went right over to assist in comforting the grandmother and then the mother and father as well. The wanted prayer and he prayed with them. Pastor Murray then explained in a very compassionate way the procedures that we had to follow in order to conduct the investigation. I contacted Pastor Charles Jones who came over to the residence as well. Chaplain Giddens left with Officer Mcphail to run more calls. Pastor Murray remained until some other family and friends arrived to support one another. Pastor Jones stayed until the medical examiners office came out and just continued to comfort the family and the investigation moved along smoothly. The family started the healling process immediately after a trajic but accidental death of their 3 month old baby.
